Our latest innovation
Weir Minerals continues the Multiflo® legacy of excellence with new submersible pump floats. Designed by our team of engineers in Canada, the Multiflo® submersible pump floats are a polyethylene floats specifically engineered for submersible pump applications. The floats offer a simple solution to vertically suspend up to two submersible pumps without the need for large floatation equipment. The Multiflo® floats are available in two different designs, several different sizes, and with up to 2,360 kgs (5190 lbs) of buoyancy capacity.
40 years of expertise is just the beginning
For 40 years Weir Minerals has provided custom Multiflo® barge solutions for applications all around the world. The global team of barge and dewatering specialists provide custom solutions for everything from tailings management and water reclamation, to specially engineered solutions to meet the environmental demands of tropical storms, subzero temperatures, and even interference from local wildlife.
Engineered-To-Order is second nature
The need for custom barge solutions for tailings management has increased in recent years. Where previously dewatering pumps in tailings applications were set-and-forget, the increased focus on tailings dam safety has shined a new spotlight on barge solutions that can provide heavy-duty, reliable pumping.
Read our case study to learn how we engineered a custom modular Multiflo® pontoon barge system that extracts 9,000m³ of water per hour.
Pontoon barges vs Deep Well Pumping
One of the greatest advantages of pontoon barges over deep well pumping is that pontoon barge systems allow for flexibility with water level fluctuations. These systems self correct for changes in water level and require only minor mooring adjustments whereas a deep well pumphouse will need to be moved further up the wall of the dyke to accommodate fluctuating water levels as tailings ponds grow. And by comparison, deep well pump systems requires allocation of time and heavy machinery, and potentially the creation of a new well.
Pontoon barges vs Skid Mounted Pumps
Where land-based pump skids require close proximity to the shoreline due to their limited lift capability, lift capability is maintained on barges through automatically adjusting to pond level fluctuations. This eliminates any potential for cavitation and, unlike skid-mounted horizontal pumps and pump houses, barges can employ submersible or vertical pumps that do not require priming systems which adds additional complexity to the pump system and maintenance.
